In honor of the Rembrandt year we have compiled a walk that takes you along the life and works of the greatest painter the Netherlands has ever known.
Rembrandt in Amsterdam
We start on his "own" square. This central square in the heart of Amsterdam clearly shows what important place Rembrandt occupies in the city. We tell the story of Rembrandt's life.
From the moment Rembrandt moved to Amsterdam, in 1631 he settled here permanently, we can also follow in his footsteps. We see the places where he lived and worked. In addition to his famous paintings, Rembrandt also made many drawings and etchings of Amsterdam and surroundings. We pass various places that Rembrandt has drawn or painted, show the drawings there and tell the stories he has put on paper as a drawing.
The walk starts at Rembrandtplein. We walk to the Jodenbreestraat where the house where he lived for a long time and where now the Rembrandt House Museum is located. Then we walk through some beautiful historic places to the last house of Rembrandt and we stop at his last resting place in the Westerkerk.
The journey takes about 2.5 hours.
